Nowadays diseases are increasing day by day and so are its treatment. Today we would like to talk about breast cancer and symptoms of breast cancer. As we all know that cancer is one of the fatal diseases which is affecting a lot of people’s lives adversely. So here I am providing some important information about this fatal disease which will help u a lot.

According to American cancer society, approximately 63960 cases will be diagnosed for early stages of breast cancer in 2018. There are different types of breast cancer which are as follows. Each year 1900000 patients are diagnosed with breast cancer. According to national cancer institute breast cancer patients has decreased by 2% in the United States from 1999 to 2006 but the reason for the same is unknown

  • Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS)
  • Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC)
  • Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)
  • Recurrent breast cancer
  • Metastatic breast cancer

The above-mentioned types of breast cancer can be explained further below

  • Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS)- under this type of breast cancer there are no symptoms, rarely women can feel a lump in her breast and it can be detected with mammograms as it is the preliminary stage of the disease
  • Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC)-under this type of cancer there are symptoms like swelling of the breast, nipple or breast pain etc.
  • Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC)-this type of cancer also does not shows any type of symptoms and cannot be detected with mammograms
  • Metastatic breast cancer- this type of cancer is the advanced form of breast cancer in which cancer starts from the breast and then spreads to other parts of the body thus making it extremely difficult to treat

Breast cancer is a type of cancer which prevails mostly in women and it occurs when healthy cells in breast changes and grow out of control and form a tumor which is curable if detected at an early stage.  Breast cancer spreads when cancer in the breast spreads in other parts of the body thus making it much more difficult to cure.

First Signs of Breast Cancer

The chances of developing breast cancer increases as the women ages as most breast cancers occur in women aged 50 or above some early signs of breast cancer are as follows-

  • Formation of lump or Swelling in breasts or armpits which you may not see but can feel

  • Change in skin texture
  • Change in color i.e. the breast becomes red or inflamed

Nipple discharge occurs suddenly i.e. the discharge from the nipple comes out without squeezing and is generally bloody or occurs in one breast.  There is a change in skin texture i.e. occurrence of rashes or crusting around the breast, the skin of the breast becomes red or develop rashes which can be itchy thus resulting in a great amount of pain and discomfort in the breast.

  • Irritated or itchy breast
  • Peeling or flaking of breast skin
  • Redness or pitting of the breast skin
  • Thickening of the lump

The best chances of detecting breast cancer at an early stage are being aware of your breasts. Being aware of your breasts means how do they look and feel and  what changes to look for being breast aware doesn’t mean that you have to check your breasts daily but you have to keep a strong check on what changes to look for

The best possible way of detecting breast cancer early is to look how your breast feels normally and how do they feel during periods. Some woman might have lumpier or heavier breasts during their periods. If both the breasts feel similar and the condition wears off after periods than there is no need to worry but if the condition prevails after periods and you can notice changes in only one breast than there is a need to consult your doctor immediately.

One of the major problem if cancer spreads to the bones is spinal cord compression. Spinal cord contains nerves which helps in managing various body movements and bowel thus if cancer spreads to the spinal cord it will cause major hindrance in coordinating and managing these functions

If cancer has spread to the brain than you can notice various symptoms depending upon which part of your brain is affected. Some of the symptoms that occur are as follows-

  • Headaches or feel sick
  • Numbness in your limbs
  • Memory loss
  • Loss of eyesight
  • Behaving abnormally

The cerebrum is the part which is mostly affected there is a very less chance that the cancer spreads to the cerebellum or brain stem. Most people develop multiple brain tumors very few people develop a single brain tumour. Some other symptoms of this type of cancer are

  • Breathlessness

  • Fluid build-up between the lungs and the chest wall

When cancer starts it is called primary cancer but if it spreads from the primary organ to any other organ then it is called secondary cancer for e g if the cancer originated from the breasts and spreads to the bone then it is also known as secondary bone cancer. Secondary bone cancer can spread to any bone of your body some of the other symptoms of this type of cancer are

  • Low level of blood cells
  • Pressure on spinal cord
  • The pain is persistent

The survival in this type of cancer depends upon weather cancer has spread to one or multiple parts of the body and therefore it is difficult to predict the survival and this uncertainty is what is difficult to deal with. Thus a person should try to remain calm and compose as ones own will to fight is what is important i.e. maintain a positive attitude.

Symptoms if Cancer Spreads to Blood/Bone marrow/Lymphatic System

  • Blood cancer is the term used to describe the cancer which affects the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic system
  • There are 137 types of blood cancer but the common ones are leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma
  • As the nature of blood cancer is quite complex therefore the symptoms of this cancer varies differently
  • According to researchers a person is diagnosed with blood cancer or related disease every fourteen minutes in united kingdom
  • Some of the common symptoms of blood cancer are as follows-
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Enlarged lymph nodes
  • Pain in joints and bones
  • Itchy skin
  • Feeling weak
  • Fever
  • Swollen stomach

Breast cancer symptoms pain persists because of formation of the lump in collarbone or armpits which causes inflation which results in irresistible pain thus women need to be aware of their breasts and keep a regular check if any of the above-mentioned signs occur then they must see the doctor immediately. Generally, if there is the pain in the breast it does not mean that you are having cancer. The pain in the breast can persist because of other reasons but one should remain cautious keep a check of what may be the reason for pain or any other discomfort and should see a doctor immediately

Thus it is important for women to get a regular check-up every 6 months and try to stay away from alcohol as consumption of alcohol is one of the reasons of increasing breast cancer in women nowadays. In the end I would like to conclude that best way of avoiding breast cancer is exercise daily, eat healthy and stay away from alcohol. There are some checkpoints or some measures which can help you to avoid breast cancer. The steps are as follows-

  • Limit alcohol consumption- the more you drink alcohol there are more chances of getting breast cancer
  • Don’t smoke
  • Manage your weight- exercise daily as increasing weight is one of the major reasons not only for cancer but other fatal diseases such as diabetes or blood pressure
  • Breast feed- the longer you breast feed longer the protection
  • Any exposure to radiation or environmental pollution should be avoided
  • The dose and duration of hormone therapy should be limited as getting hormone therapy for more than 3 to 5 years increases the risk of breast cancer.
